Born August 27, 1886, William Pettingill received only a fourth-grade education because of precarious family finances. Saved at 13, se- rious Bible study began a decade later after his first encounter with C.I. Scofield. From that point, Pettingill moved from Y.M.C.A. work into the pastorate and teaching. Many of his 21 books are revised sermon studies. In 1913 Scofield and Pettingill cofounded the Phila- delphia College of the Bible, with Pettingill serving as dean. In addition to stimulating students with his vivid visualizations of the Word and his hearty laugh, Pettingill wrote widely, served on the council of the Central American Mission, and was a staunch supporter of the fundamentalist movement. From 1929 to 1950 Dr. Pettingill traveled across North and Central America, and to Europe, sharing his gift of stirring people to action from the Word. 'Keep looking up' was his motto, but it became the challenge of many. Dr. Pettingill exchanged his faith for sight September 15, 1950.

Sermons From Job, Clovis G. Chappell
15 Clovis G. Chappell Sermons From Job
Abingdon Press 1957 B000O2FPQI Hardcover Used - Very Good No Jacket
No marks or writing observed in text. Binding tight and square. No DJ. . . . . . . . . . . . Clovis G Chappell was born not far from the Natchez Trace Parkway, south of Nashville, in an unincorporated village, Flatwoods, Tennessee. At the time of his birth, 8 January 1882, Queen Victoria was still on the throne of England, Chester A Arthur was the American President, Charles H Spurgeon was still pastoring Metropolitan Tabernacle London, Dwight L Moody was still training students at his schools in Northfield, Massachusetts, and the “shouting” Methodists, in their heyday, had almost Christianized the country. If you were a Christian, it was a wonderful day to be alive! Chappell retired long before he was finished. In the late 1940s. About the time that Israel became a nation. Much of the remainder of his life was spent on speaking tours and writing books. His denominational house, Abingdon Press, said he was the most popular writer they had. He lived to witness the Vietnam War, the Charismatic Renewal, even Watergate, and, August, 1972, died, at the ripe old age of ninety, at Waverly, Tennessee, not too far from his birthplace. Thanks to the power of the printed page, we are left with his written sermons. After a man’s life is spent, that, after all, is the most revealing measure of who he was.
