3 David M. Clemens Supplementary Exercises for Introducing Biblical Hebrew by Allen P. Ross
Regent College Publishing September 2008 1573834254 / 9781573834254 Soft Cover Used - Like New
CLEAN!! No marks. Might as well be new. Appears unread. . . . . . . . . . . . 'This book is a much needed supplement to Allen Ross's excellent Introduction to Biblical Hebrew. IBH is a fine text but the included exercises can give you a false sense of competency. I found this book as I began my first semester of Hebrew and, after bringing it to my professor's attention, he quickly incorporated it into the lessons. The parsing exercises are helpful and clever enough to really test what you know. The author then gives two sets of his own sentences to translate which sometimes verge on the bizarre (they were clearly constructed to give you a sense of the nuance of the language rather then being clear or even coherent). Still, they are 'exercises' in the truest sense of the word. Best of all are the annotated exercises from the Bible which are selected in view of your expected competency at the corresponding stage in the grammar. The selections are diverse and even have a good pedagogical approach (ex: if you should be able to parse the word but haven't encountered the vocabulary, the lexical form is given). I do have minor quibbles but I have benefitted so much from these supplementary exercises that I cannot help but give my full recommendation of this text. In the hands of a competent Hebrew professor you will only learn more, maximizing your use of Ross' very thorough grammar.' -- Tom Acemoglu

4 Editor-J. R. Dummelow A Commentary on the Holy Bible By Various Writers (Complete in One Volume with General Articles and Maps)
Macmillan September 1925 B0007K8GOU Hardcover Used - Good
No marks or writing observed in text. Binding tight and square. Light wear on cover. . . . . . . . . . . 'As a regular reader / student of the Bible, I highly recommend this book for any serious bible student. I use this book in addition to a study bible and it really adds to my bible reading experience. The book is packed with additional commentary on bible versus. It is about the same size as my study bible, but is not a bible. This not the only study aid I use, but I find this very valuable. In the event that it might matter to another student, my other favorite bible instructor writer is William Barclay. ' -- FCD117

6 R. K. Harrison Introduction to the Old Testament: With a comprehensive review of Old Testament studies and a special supplement on the Apocrypha
Eerdmans 1982 B0006BM8T4 Soft Cover Used - Good
1982 Printing - Highlighting and marks observed in text. Binding lightly shaken but all is secure. . . . . . . . . . . . 'An Indispensable Resource for Old Testament Studies' The present work is an attempt to evaluate the contents of the Old Testament and the Apocrypha against the vast background of knowledge that is now available for students of ancient Near Eastern life and culture. (From the Preface) With characteristic understatement, R. K. Harrison embarked on this massive attempt and produced a volume that for scrupulous detail, scholarly rigor, and sheer erudition has remained unmatched for nearly fifty years. Writing from his own apparently limitless scholarship combined with a conservative perspective, Harrison first reviews the entire history of Old Testament criticism and sets the Hebrew scriptures in their full historical and theological context. He then presents a detailed discussion of each Old Testament book, along with a lucid overview of the apocryphal books. Harrison s engagement of the perennial issues and problems of Old Testament scholarship make this classic text a vital foundation for a new generation of scholars. For contemporary Old Testament studies, this highly respected volume continues to be the essential point of departure.'

7 Richard Bauckham Jesus and the Eyewitnesses: The Gospels as Eyewitness Testimony
Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company December 2006 0802831621 / 9780802831620 First Edition Hardcover Used - Good Very Good
Some underlining and highlighting observed in text. Name maqrked out on inside cover. Binding tight and square. . . . . . . . . . . . . . From the Inside Flap: 'This momentous book argues that the four Gospels are closely based on the eyewitness testimony of those who personally knew Jesus. Noted New Testament scholar Richard Bauckham challenges the prevailing assumption that the accounts of Jesus circulated as anonymous community traditions, asserting instead that they were transmitted in the names of the original eyewitness. To drive home this controversial point, Bauckham draws on internal literary evidence, the use of personal names in first-century Jewish Palestine, and recent developments in the understanding of oral tradition. 'Jesus and the Eyewitnesses' also taps into the rich resources of modern study of memory, especially in cognitive psychology, refuting the conclusions of the form critics and calling New Testament scholarship to make a clean break with this long-dominant tradition. Finally, Bauckham challenges readers to end the classic division between the historical Jesus and the Christ of faith, proposing instead the Jesus of testimony as presented by the Gospels. Sure to ignite heated debate on the precise character of the testimony about Jesus, 'Jesus and the Eyewitnesses' is a groundbreaking work that will be valued by scholars, students, and all who seek to understand the origins of the Gospels.'
