3 Joseph McSorley Common Sense
Bruce Pub. Co 1957 B0007ECSZE Hardcover Used - Very Good No Jacket
From Private library with few library marks. No marks or writing observed in text. Binding tight and square. Gently read. No DJ . . . . . 'Common sense-a judgment shared by a multitude of well-informed persons-sometimes bears so close a resemblance to the Church's teaching that it seems to be fruit springing from revelation. By way of example many an honest thinker, after reading the Gospel, instinctively believes in Our Lord's divinity. He also, as soon as he begins to think about the question, endorses the right of the Church founded by Our Lord to define the meaning of His doctrine; and he will realize that it is absurd to believe that Christ founded more than one Church; or to maintain that the one Church has more than one Head. In all probability he will not think of reproving a Christian child for taking towards the Blessed Virgin the same attitude that her Son took. When we put these things together, we begin to look on common sense as a sort of extra-curricular apologetics, which exercises to some extent, the kind of influence that we associate with such works as Cardinal's Newman's Grammar of Assent and Father Hecker's Questions of the Soul. So I selected certain Catholic ideals and teachings which illustrate this and drew attention to them in my last book, Common Sense (Bruce, 1957).' -- Fr. McSorley

Has marks and writing observed in text. Binding tight and square. Original owner had the book rebound in plastic comb. ............. ................... ................ This study presents the most important aspects of the doctrine of Purgatory, that troubled moment in the genesis of God's new creation. It first examines the Scriptures, not so much to find a few proof-texts but to disclose the themes that were to be found later in thought and practice. The traditions of the Christian East and West having been assessed, the author offers a contemporary account of the purgatorial effects of dying in the Lord.

The Theology of the Church, Charles Cardinal Journet; Translators-Victor Szczurek O. Praem, Michael J. Miller
15 Charles Cardinal Journet; Translators-Victor Szczurek O. Praem, Michael J. Miller The Theology of the Church
Ignatius Press May 2004 0898708885 / 9780898708882 Hardcover Used - Very Good As New
No marks or writing observed in text. Binding tight and square. Gently read. From private collection. In archival mylar protected dust jacket. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Theology of the Church was first published over forty years ago. Now more relevant than ever, the republishing of this classic has been greeted with joy by a great number of Christians. The work is a shorter version of the basic and beautiful book by the same author, the two volume The Church of the Incarnate Word. From this theological work, Cardinal Journet has extracted a shorter and more popular version intended for a wider reading audience. Readers will welcome the brilliant, intellectually rigorous, but highly spiritual thought which shines throughout the Cardinal’s writing. And today, when clergy and laymen are more careful than ever to aquire or deepen their theological knowledge, the contribution of Cardinal Journet to ecclesiology needs to be available again. This edition includes two chapters written shortly after the Second Vatican Council. This addition both complements and gives added depth to the original text, providing the reader with a fresh outook on the learning of the author, whose love of the Church is evident in every sentence. St. Augustine’s 'gaudium et veritate', the joy of seaching for, and bringing forth, the Truth, was certainly the cause for which Cardinal Journet strove.
