4 Rex Harlow A Biography Of Everett Wentworth Hill
Harlow Publishing Company 1930 B0028QEFSW Leather Collectible - Very Good Signed By Author
Signed By Author. Clean!! No Marks. Light Wear On Cover. Signed By Author. Clean!! No Marks. Light Wear On Cover................... Everett Wentworth Hill was Rotary International's 14th president and a businessman who owned the largest chain of refrigeration plants in the state of Oklahoma. He was also a poet. 'He has an excellent grasp of poetry and the right conception of its writing,' said no less a critic than the famed fellow U.S. poet, Edwin Markham. So it seemed a natural thing to do: when his business collapsed during the Great Depression of the 1930's, Everett Hill turned to poetry and writing as his new vocation. As his skills and interests developed, Everett began to walk the woods of the U.S. and Canada, learning about people and shaping a new philosophy of life as he went. Hill was a charter member of the Rotary Club or Shawnee, Oklahoma (Chartered 1916). When he became governor of his district a few years later, he traveled widely 'devoting only one day of that year to my own business,' he declared. As president of RI in 1924-25, he gave even more time to Rotary business, visiting clubs in 23 countries and writing many articles for THE ROTARIAN. But then came the Depression, which wiped away his business and most of his assets, including his collection of Chinese art. But it did not discourage his optimism and faith in the human spirit. 'Rotary means everything to me,' he often said, and he encouraged Rotarians everywhere to continually examine their commitment, to make sure they are in fact the kind of Rotarians they 'think' they are. At age 90, Ev Hill was still providing his dedication, through his attendance at the 1974 Rotary Convention in Minneapolis Minnesota. He died four years later at the age of 94, on May 22, 1978.
