BOOK CONDITONS
NEW: Without faults or defects. If original factory seal is present it will be noted.
NEAR FINE: a book with a couple of very minor defects or faults, which will be noted.
[NOTE: From here on, there may be "+ (Plus)" or "- (Minus)" in a grade, which will mean that it is above the grade noted but not quite to the next higher grade for "+", and that it is below the grade noted but not quite to the next lower grade for "-", i.e., Very Good + (or Plus)/Very Good - (or Minus). Which means the book is better than Very Good and the dust jacket grade is less than Very Good.]
VERY GOOD: A book showing some signs of wear. Any defects or faults will be noted.
GOOD: The average used book that is totally complete (as issued) and intact. Any defects will be noted.
FAIR: A worn book that has complete text pages (including those with maps or plates) but may lack endpapers, half-title page, etc. Any defects or faults will be noted.
EX-LIBRARY: Will always be designated as such no matter what the condition of the book.
BOOK CLUB: Will always be noted as such no matter what the condition of the book.
REMAINDER MARKS, BOOKPLATES, PREVIOUS OWNER'S NAME: These are faults and will always be noted, if they apply.
DUST JACKET: May be abbreviated as DJ. Condition will be noted separately from the cook condition. If the condition of a dust jacket is less than that of the book, the overall condition will be downgraded accordingly. If no dust jacket was used by the publisher the description will state :”No Dust Jacket as issued”
BOOK DESCRIPTIONS
HARDCOVER: Also described as hardback or abbreviated as HC. Indicates stiff covers or boards
SLIPCASE: A box built to house and protect a book or books, leaving the spine(s) exposed.
SOFTCOVER: Also described as softback or paperback. Indicates flexible covers or boards
SPIRAL BOUND: A binding in which a cylindrical spiral of wire or plastic is passed through a row of punched holes at the edge of the book.
OTHER DESCRIPTIONS
SIGNED: The signature only of the person noted (usually the author). May have a dedication with the signature but not to a specific person.
INSCRIBED: Usually indicates a book signed by the author or another individual with an inscription or dedication note to a specific person.
